Musical Explorers Program

Program Summary: 

The Musical Explorers Program introduces Timothy Christian School students in grades 1 & 2 to global music, history and culture.  During the 2024-2025 school year, students will explore six music genres and traditional folk music from the following regions and countries: USA: Southeastern Songs and Dances; Africa: South African Zulu and Zimbabwean folk music; Mexico: Son Jarocho folk music; Caribbean: Haitian Song Traditions; Eastern Europe: Georgian folk music. In January 2025, 2nd grade Musical Explorers will perform in a live concert at Carnegie Hall with 500 students from the tri-state area.

Core Curriculum Objectives:

    • Study of global music, folk dances, history, and cultural traditions
    • Develop fundamental performance skills: listening, vocal, body movement
    • Learn music concepts: pitch (ear training), rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo
    • Music enrichment for lifelong learning and appreciation

Link Up Program: “The Orchestra ROCKS”

Program Summary:

September 2024 – June 2025

The Link Up Program introduces Timothy Christian School (TCS) students in grades 3 & 4 to the orchestra, through an intensive, music education curriculum. During the 2024-2025 school year, students will explore Christian Rock music repertoire through the works of Lauren Daigle, Mercy Me, For King and Country, TobyMac, and other contemporary artists.  The curriculum covers fundamental music concepts: rhythm, melody, harmony, orchestration, and composition. In May 2025, TCS Link Up Honor Students have 2 performances: TCS Spring Concert, and a live concert in NYC, with the Carnegie Hall Orchestra. 11,000 Link Up students from the tri-state area perform at Carnegie Hall, for the annual 4-day concert.

The Link Up music program reaches 450,000 students and teachers in the US, and worldwide. This music education program is made possible by the Carnegie Hall Organization, and national partnerships with orchestras in Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Japan, Kenya, Spain, USA, and Vietnam.

 

Core Curriculum Objectives:

  • History of Christian Rock: 1950s – present; rock repertoire, artists, songwriters
  • Fundamentals of music theory, music history, notation, composition, ear training
  • Soprano Recorder, Level 1, Level 2: instrument fundamentals for performance
  • Four Families of the Orchestra and Band: brass, percussion, strings, woodwinds
