Musical Explorers Program

September 2021 – January 2022 (1st semester)

January 2022 – May 2022 (2nd semester)

Program Summary: 

The Musical Explorers Program connects students in grades 1–2 to the music of New York City’s diverse communities. During the 2021–2022 school year, students will explore the following musical genres:  Cumbia (Colombian Folk Music), Armenian Folk Music, Christian Hip-Hop, Bluegrass, Chinese Folk Music, and Iraqi Folk Music. At the end of each semester, students participate in a digital concert with 500 students – live stream from Carnegie Hall, in New York City.

Participating schools in the US access the Musical Explorers curriculum through Carnegie Hall online resources. There are 30,000 students participating in the Musical Explorers Program across the United States.

Core Curriculum Objectives:

    • Study of global music: history and culture
    • Develop fundamental music skills: listening, vocal, dance movements
    • Learn basic music concepts: pitch (ear training), rhythm, melody, harmony
    • Music enrichment for life-long learning and appreciation


Link Up Program:“The Orchestra SINGS ”

Program Summary:

The Link Up Program introduces students in grades 3–4 to the orchestra, through an intensive, 9-month curriculum.  During the 2021–2022 school year, students will explore classical repertoire through the works of Stravinsky, Beethoven, Dvorak, Copeland, and other composers.  The curriculum covers fundamental music concepts: rhythm, melody, orchestration, melodic composition. In May, students will perform the curriculum repertoire with the Carnegie Hall Orchestra, in a digital concert, presented live stream from New York City.

The Link Up Program reaches 450,000 students and teachers around the world. This music education program is made possible through national partnerships with more than 110 orchestras from Alaska to Florida, as well as international partnerships with orchestras in Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Japan, Kenya, and Spain.

Core Curriculum Objectives:

  • Study of orchestral repertoire, composers, music history
  • Fundamentals of music theory, notation, melodic composition, ear training
  • Soprano Recorder: instrument fundamentals
  • Families of the Orchestra: strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion
