History was made this week inside of the TCS athletic department on Monday. And then on Wednesday. And then on Friday. And then on Saturday. Let’s recap:
Monday – Varsity Boys’ soccer defeats Woodbridge Academy and secures their first undefeated divisional record in a season and wins their 2nd straight GMC Gold division title. The boys’ title coupled with the varsity girls’ soccer title represents the first time in TCS athletic history that two divisional titles have been won in the same season. The boys also claimed the school’s first back-to-back athletic title.
Wednesday – Varsity girls volleyball defeats South Plainfield High School in the GMC volleyball tournament. It was the first GMC tournament win for TCS girls volleyball.
Friday – Varsity boys’ soccer was seeded #8 in the GMC soccer tournament and hosted #9 Spotswood High School. Despite criticism from some that the boys seeding may not be warranted due to softer Gold division competition, the boys defeated Spotswood High School, 1-0 validating their seeding and season to this point. The varsity boys are now in the final 8 of the GMC tournament, the furthest any team has advanced in athletic department history.
Friday / Saturday – Varsity girls’ soccer defeated Veritas Academy Friday night and Pilgrim Academy Saturday afternoon and claimed their first Pilgrim Academy Invitational Championship. The girls have attempted to claim this championship three previous times and finally broke through this year. The girls held possession of the ball 80% of the time this weekend, did not give up a goal in either game, and 6 different players scored en route to their claiming the championship trophy. It represents the first time in school history that girls soccer has claimed two championships in the same season.
