At Timothy Christian School, we believe Christian education is about more than academic growth. We want our students to grow in their relationship with Christ and learn what it looks like to reflect Him in the classroom, at home, on the athletic field, and throughout their community.
This year our students and staff are being challenged to grow together through themes that encourage us to serve, encourage, care for one another, and ultimately shine for Christ.
Faculty & Staff: Koselig
During Faculty and Staff Orientation Week, Dr. Smock introduced our faculty and staff theme for the year: Koselig.
Koselig is a Norwegian word that describes a cozy, warm atmosphere of togetherness in a pleasant setting. While there is not a direct English translation, the idea captures the feeling of creating a welcoming environment where people feel connected, cared for, and valued.
This year, our faculty and staff are committed to continuing to cultivate that sense of community through the way we serve, encourage, and care for one another.
Throughout Orientation Week, staff spent time learning, worshiping, praying, serving, and preparing together for the year ahead. From sharing meals and fellowship to professional development and time in prayer, the week provided opportunities to strengthen the community that makes Timothy special.
Our hope is that this spirit of Koselig will extend beyond our faculty and staff and shape the atmosphere of our entire school. When our staff care for one another well, we create an environment where students can see what Christ-centered community looks like in action.
Elementary: APPLE – A Precious Pupil Learns Every Day
Our elementary students are spending the year learning about the Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22–23:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
To help students remember this important truth, the elementary theme is APPLE: A Precious Pupil Learns Every Day.
Throughout the year, students will explore what it means to allow the Holy Spirit to produce His fruit in their lives. These aren’t just character traits to memorize; they are qualities God desires to develop in each of His children as they grow in their relationship with Him.
That message has already been woven into elementary chapel this year. They learned that in order to grow in their faith they need to read God’s Word and pray. The students also have been challenged to think about how they can show love and kindness to others, including learning practical ways to care for their classmates. From including others on the playground to protecting others by not spreading germs, students are learning that loving others can be demonstrated through everyday choices.
These lessons reinforce the heart of the APPLE theme: our students are precious children of God who are continually learning, growing, and becoming more like Christ.
Throughout the school year, classrooms, chapels, Scripture, prayer, activities, and conversations will provide opportunities for students to see how the Fruit of the Spirit can become evident in their everyday lives.
Middle School & High School: A Champion Shines!
For our middle and high school students, this year’s theme is: A Champion Shines!
Matthew 5:16 says:
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
This year students are being challenged to consider a simple but important question: What kind of light are you?
At the first chapel for middle school Mr. Covington gave a powerful message and asked, “If we have the light of Jesus, how do we stay lit?” He also shared from Ephesians 5:8–10, encouraging students to start each school day with the truth of God. He challenged the students to read one verse of Scripture and listen to one Christian song before entering Building 4 each morning.
We also invited Pastor Andy Imbimbo of Crossroads Church to share in chapel. He encouraged students to think about whether their lives are like a strobe light, a dimmer light, or a light that consistently shines for Christ. The challenge is to not simply talk about faith, but to allow a relationship with Jesus to change the way we live.
Our desire is for every student to become a champion for Christ who reflects Jesus in their attitudes, choices, relationships, leadership, and witness.
Middle School: The SHINES Framework
Middle school students are putting the theme into practice through a new SHINES House Framework designed to build discipleship, character, and community through homerooms.
Each house focuses on a biblical characteristic that challenges students to reflect Christ:
-
- S – Serve Others: Champions look beyond themselves by serving with humility, kindness, and a willing heart, following the example of Jesus.
- H – Honor God: Champions make God their highest priority, seeking to glorify Him through their attitudes, decisions, and actions.
- I – Integrity in Choices: Champions do what is right even when no one is watching, choosing honesty, responsibility, and biblical character.
- N – Noble in Effort: Champions pursue excellence by giving their best, persevering through challenges, and honoring God with their work.
- E – Encourage Daily: Champions use their words and actions to build others up, creating a culture of hope, kindness, and Christ-centered community.
- S – Strength in the Lord: Champions remember that their true strength comes from Christ, who strengthens them in their weakness.
Through house activities, chapel, homeroom conversations, competitions, and everyday interactions, middle school students will have opportunities to put these principles into action.
High School: A Journey of Faith
For high school students, this year’s theme is connected to a four-year Journey of Faith.
Each grade is represented by a biblical figure who reflects a different stage of spiritual growth. Together, the four years create a progression from learning about faith to living it out and ultimately sharing it with others.
9th Grade – HOUSE TIMOTHY: Learn Faith
Know God’s Word
Freshmen are encouraged to begin their high school journey by growing in their knowledge of Scripture and developing a strong foundation for their faith.
10th Grade – HOUSE JOHN: Deepen Faith
Think Biblically
Sophomores are challenged to deepen their relationship with Christ, remain rooted in Him, and develop a biblical worldview.
11th Grade – HOUSE PETER: Live Faith
Stand for Christ
Juniors are challenged to step out in courage, take initiative, and become leaders who are willing to publicly live out their faith.
12th Grade – HOUSE PAUL: Multiply Faith
Share the Gospel
Seniors are challenged to finish well, embrace their mission, and consider how God can use them to influence and disciple others wherever He leads them.
The goal is that students do not simply graduate from Timothy with biblical knowledge. They leave equipped to live out their faith, reflect Christ, and make an impact for His Kingdom.
One Community, One Purpose
While each group at Timothy has a unique theme and focus this year, they are all connected by the common purpose of cultivating a Christ-centered community where people are encouraged to grow, serve, care for one another, and reflect Jesus every day.
For our faculty and staff, that means creating a culture of Koselig, where we serve, encourage, and care for one another.
For our elementary students, it means learning to recognize and demonstrate the Fruit of the Spirit as they grow in their faith.
For our middle school and high school students, it means learning to SHINE through service, honoring God, integrity, noble effort, encouragement, and strength in the Lord.
From the youngest learners to our seniors and the faculty and staff who pour into them each day, our prayer is that Timothy Christian School will be a community where Christ is known, His people are cared for, and His light shines brightly.
