Mike Luciano graduated from TCS in 1999. While at Timothy he was a member of NHS and Student Council. He also played basketball and helped his team bring home their 1999 ACSI championship banner. After graduating he received his ministry and pastoral training at Word of Life Bible Institute, Moody Bible Institute (B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.), and Drew University (D.Min.).
Currently Mike is serving as the Senior Pastor at Gateway Church in Staten Island, the church he grew up in. He has an amazing wife of 20 years and two wonderful sons. He is thankful for the opportunity to love and lead his church and his family. Seeing lives transformed by the Gospel is his greatest joy in ministry.
We were excited to have Mike “return home” to TCS to deliver this year’s commencement address. To hear what Mike shared with our graduates, click here.
Here’s what Mike had to say about his time at TCS:
What do you love most about TCS?
I grew academically, spiritually, and relationally during my high school years in the Christ-Centered environment of TCS. I learned what true servant leadership looked like by watching the dedicated teachers and coaches love and lead the student body. To this day, I am so grateful for my four years at Timothy!
What is one word that best describes the school? Why?
Faithful. TCS is faithful to the Lord and its mission of providing the finest Christ-centered education, equipping students to live productive, God-glorifying lives.
Describe one of your favorite memories of TCS.
One of my favorite memories from TCS was being a part of the Missionary Drama team. We would perform at various churches throughout the area, under the leadership of Mrs. Scott, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through dramatic performances. I learned so much about service and having a heart to serve the local church from being a member of this group.
From your own experience, why do you believe it was important for you to attend TCS?
The high school years are so pivotal as you are beginning your journey into adulthood. By attending TCS, I was able to grow, make mistakes, find grace, and develop as a young man.
How are faith and learning integrated at TCS?
The teachers and coaches are not just there to input information or get a desired result on the athletic field. The integration of one’s faith in all areas of life, seeking to glorify God as a student, leader, and athlete, was always emphasized and modeled in the learning. I learned that my faith affects all areas of my life, a truth I seek to live out to this day.
In what ways did TCS prepare you for college and beyond?
The academic rigor prepared me well to succeed when I went to college, and paying attention to my spiritual life in the midst of all my responsibilities and tasks really helped me to prioritize my heart and walk with the Lord though all the stages and challenges of life.
What would you tell a friend to encourage them to send their child to TCS?
If you are looking for a Christ-centered, faithful, academically rigorous, and safe environment to send your kids in NJ, then TCS is the place!
