Debate Team
Our TCS Debate program features an interscholastic debate team which travels to competitions in New Jersey and the Northeast throughout the school year. The season begins in mid-September and concludes with the NJ State Championship in March.
Students compete in both the Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas styles of debate. TCS Debate participates in the National Speech and Debate Association, The New Jersey Speech and Debate League, and the Newark Catholic Forensic League.
Timothy debaters have earned many awards and distinctions both in NJ and at National events over the last ten years. Two Timothy debaters have been state champions and multiple others have finished in the top 8 at the end-of-the-year State Championship event.
The National Speech and Debate Association
The National Speech and Debate Association (formerly known as the National Forensics League) is a major organization that directs high school speech and debate events. Every June, the National Speech and Debate Association hosts the NSDA Finals, which students qualify for at the New Jersey District Tournament in March.
The New Jersey Speech and Debate League
The New Jersey Speech and Debate League holds several tournaments every year at locations like Freehold Township High School, Summit High School, Bridgewater Raritan High School, and Ridge High School, culminating with NJFL State Championship Tournament every year in March.
