TCS held its annual Middle School Spirit Week from December 15 through 19. It was an unforgettable week filled with creativity, teamwork, friendly competition, and plenty of Christmas cheer. Students in grades six through eight enjoyed themed dress up days, lunchtime games, homeroom competitions, and the always popular “Deck the Door” contest.
Monday: Rhyme Without a Reason Day
Students started the week in creative outfits that paired silly or unexpected combinations. Some of the combinations included rapper and napper, fairy and dairy, baby and old lady, and spicy and icy. The teachers even joined in on the fun, and all rhymed with the word “rhyme!” During lunch, students competed in a game called “Head, Shoulders, Knees, Cup.” Partners faced off in exciting rounds within each grade level and the winners received candy!
Winners of the Cup Game: Jordy (6th), Lulu (7th), Lesley (8th)
Door decorating also began with groups working in teams of five to seven students.
Tuesday: Twin, Triplet, or Character Day
The halls were full of matching outfits and fun character costumes. In the afternoon, students participated in a “Pool Noodle Battle” during seventh period. Teams of twelve from each grade faced off, and the winners advanced to a final round.
Winners of the Pool Noodle Battle: Josiah (6th grade), Elias (7th grade and Boys round), Christian (8th grade), Portia (Girls round)
Students continued working on their homeroom doors during lunch.
Wednesday: Teacher Student Swap Day
Students and teachers enjoyed switching roles for a day of laughs and lighthearted fun. The lunchtime game was the “Rudolph Nose Run”, a fast-paced relay that required Vaseline, cotton balls, and plenty of teamwork. Each grade entered teams of five students, and the first to move ten cotton balls won.
Door decorating continued for a final day as each group added finishing touches.
Thursday: Mathletes vs Athletes Day
Students dressed as either scholars or sports stars while competing in relay races in the gym during eighth period. One of the most popular activities was the marshmallow challenge in which partners tried to be the first to reach ten marshmallows.
Winner of the Relay Races: Teachers and 7th grade
Winners of the Marshmallow Challenge: Skylar and Kaylee (8th grade)
Homeroom doors were officially judged on Thursday by Mrs. Di Fiore, Mrs. Andersen, Miss Walker, and Miss Langholff.
Friday: Christmas Morning Day
Spirit Week ended with students arriving in cozy Christmas pajamas and Crocs for a festive finish. The sixth, seventh, and eighth graders enjoyed a Mattress Race and Volleyball games in the gym during fifth and sixth periods. Homerooms faced off in rotations led by Miss McKay and Mr. Mariano. Afterwards they went back to their classrooms to celebrate the upcoming break with class parties.
Deck the Door Contest
Throughout the week, homerooms worked diligently to design creative, Christmas themed door displays. After careful judging, the winning homeroom was announced on Friday. Congratulations to Mr. Covington’s 7th grade homeroom for winning! They will earn a dress down day reward for when they return from break.
Thank you to our judges for completing the difficult task of judging the doors!
Middle School Spirit Week brought joy and unity to our students as they dressed up, competed together, and celebrated the Christmas season. We are proud of the sportsmanship, creativity, and enthusiasm shown by our middle schoolers throughout the week and we look forward to another exciting Spirit Week next year!
