We are excited that varsity girls’ soccer is back on Timothy turf! For the past two years the girls participated in a co-op with Mother Seton where they shared players, fields, and coaches. This year they have a full roster of fifteen girls, including four seniors, enough girls to rebuild our own program. “Having our own team is such a blessing. The co-op was fun, but sometimes stressful going over to Mother Seton every day and having to wear their uniform instead of ours. I feel the school spirit surrounding the team and am proud to be a Timothy Christian Tiger”, said Lynsey, a senior on the team. She described how she’s feeling about this season, “It’s going by so fast. We’re doing very well, much better than we thought we were going to in the beginning. I’m really impressed with how fast we started working together as a team. I’ve played for the past two years and I’m sad that now it’s my last season.”
The girls have had a successful season so far as they have won four out of the five games they have played. Mrs. Kim Leary is the head coach of the team this year assisted by Coach Maxi Irigoyen. She previously coached at TCS from 2002 to 2005. The teams won several ACSI Championship titles under Coach Leary’s leadership. “I love Coach Leary”, Lynsey said, “All of us on the team love Coach Leary. She has really stepped in and become a mentor for us. She’s very supportive and brings a positive energy to the team and to practices. You feel really encouraged when she tells you you’re doing a good job.”
Coach Leary is happy to be back and working with the team this year. “Overall, it’s been a blessing. The girls are getting better every day in their soccer skills and where their character is concerned, I have the best group of girls out here. That’s what keeps me coming every day, teaching them more about soccer but also watching them become better individuals and getting to be a part of that. I had a lot of coaches who invested in me, and I have the privilege of passing that on.”
Coach Leary’s daughter Taylor is also on the team. Last year, Taylor was nominated for the 1st Team All GMC Gold Division team as a freshman and this she year continues to play well. TCS soccer runs in the family as Taylor’s father and two aunts also played on a TCS soccer team.
We are thrilled to welcome back Coach Leary and watch the girls bring Tiger pride back to our home field!
