Timothy Christian School (TCS) is excited to announce that the newly formed Stakeholder’s Club will be participating in the prestigious Wharton Global High School Investment Competition 2020-21.This is TCS’s first year entering the competition and we are glad to welcome Mr. John McInerney who is serving as the club and competition advisor. McInerney, one of our own TCS parents, is a financial advisor and Certified Financial Planner™. He is a First Vice President at Morgan Stanley where his practice advises successful professionals and business owners.
The Wharton Global High School Investment Competition is a free, online investment simulation for high school students (9th to 12th grade) and teachers. Students work in teams of four to seven, guided by a teacher or other skilled advisor. Together, they learn about teamwork, communication, risk, diversification, company analysis, industry analysis and investing. This year the contest will run from September 28 to December 11.
Over the course of 10 weeks, teams are responsible for managing portfolios of $100,000 in virtual cash using Wharton Investment Simulator (WInS) and developing unique team investment strategies. Winners are selected on the strength, creativity, and articulation of their strategies and competition experiences, not on the growth of their portfolios. Top teams are invited to present their strategies to a panel of expert judges at one of the virtual Regional Finals. The top teams from the Regional Finals move on to the Global Finale to be held in Philadelphia, in May 2021.
Once the competition is over, McInerney will continue to meet with the students weekly. The goal of the TCS Stakeholders Club is to learn essential biblical, investing, career and business principles. The curriculum will help equip members with a foundational understanding of these principles and mindset to support their future success. This is open to all high school students with an interest and passion for success, making wise choices with their finances, and understanding investing and types of crucial decisions around making investments.
