In the recent years, TCS’ alignment with the Greater Middlesex Conference has opened avenues to compete against mostly public schools. The TCS student-athlete has regular opportunities to be “salt” and “light” to large numbers of Middlesex county schools. However, in order to move forward, it is important to remember one’s roots. TCS’ athletic department was founded on and competed against mostly Christian schools during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The fellowship that was developed with other Christian school students around the state was a valuable aide to the TCS student. It allowed them to know that they were not “alone” in this thing called Christianity and Christian education.
The TCS Middle School Basketball Mixer was designed to re-connect with that experience and it seems to be doing exactly that. On Saturday, January 7th the TCS gymnasium was full of students and parents from TCS, Calvary Christian (Old Bridge), and Metuchen Christian Academy. The competition was intense and the atmosphere Christ-centered. The cammaraderie of sharing faith and life together was evident to all involved. It also proved to be a successful day on the court for TCS as the middle school girls team won their first game of the year, defeating Calvary Christian 14-13. The middle school boys team stole the show for the day by winning both games and looking strong doing so.
The TCS athletic department’s two-fold mission is to develop Christ-like character through athletic participation and to represent TCS as a first-class institution to central New Jersey. The TCS middle school teams, coaches, and families appeared to have embodied this mission on Saturday!
