The community of TCS made use of its Christmas break this year. Over the past 4 years, TCS has taken part in the Valley Forge Christian College Invitational Tournament during Christmas break competing against teams from multiple states and providing a platform for colleges to recruit TCS’ athletes. The girls’ and boys’ teams have advanced to the championship game 5 times collectively. and claimed 1 tournament championship (boys ’08). Over 100 TCS’ fans, families, and alums made the VFCC gymnasium feel more like the TCS gymnasium this year as both teams advanced to the championship games.
TCS’ girls won a tightly contested contest against Baptist Regional High School (Haddon Heights, NJ) in the first round and then fell to Atlantic Christian School (Egg Harbor City, NJ) in the championship game. Hannah Saquian was named to the all-tournament team in her inaugural VFCC experience.
TCS’ boys cruised past Cumberland Valley Christian Academy (Chambersburg, Pa) in the first round. The championship game featured a match up from the previous two years against International Christian High School (Philadelphia, Pa.) TCS had lost both of the last two games against ICHS, including a two-point loss in the 2010 championship game. The TCS boys would make up for last year’s loss by defeating ICHS by 10 points and bringing the 2011 champioship plaque back to TCS for the first time since 2008. Kristian Svendsen was named to the all-tournament team and Dan Decker was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
The truest victory was for Timothy Christian School as 50+ athletes, and 100+ fans filled a small college gym in Valley Forge with cheering, smiling, laughing, competing, and ultimately representing TCS as a great place to be.
