Christmas spirit filled the middle school hallways this year as the middle school students participated again in a Christmas Spirit Week before they left for break. Each day of the week had a theme and a game. The 8th graders from the leadership class, a new class this year taught by Mrs. Medina, helped coordinate the details of the week including the themes, games, and times of the events.
On Monday the theme was “Rhyme Without a Reason.” The students dressed in creative rhymes like “Rapper and Napper” and “USA and Chick-fil-A.” You can see more of the creative costumes on our Instagram or Facebook post. For the game that day they played UNO at the lunch tables with individual students from each grade level winning the competition.
On Tuesday, the students dressed up in clothes from the decade of their choice. Clothes from the 90’s and 2000’s were seen throughout building four hallways as many chose those decades. Parents must have been excited to see their child leave the house choosing to represent the 70’s and 80’s as well. At lunch, the students played pong ball where they had one minute to throw ping pong balls into cups and see how many they could get in. Ping pong balls flew across the back of the lunchroom as the 6th graders landed the most balls in the cups.
Wednesday was “Sports Day,” and the students wore their favorite jerseys and played a volleyball game in the gym where they had to count how many times they could hit the ball before it hit the ground. The 8th graders won with over 100 hits!
Thursday was “Movie/Character Day” and dodgeball in the gym with the 8th graders again taking a win. Students dressed like tigers, chickens, minions, Santa and the Grinch, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Marvel and DC characters, Super Mario characters, Winnie the Pooh characters, and even the teachers joined in on the fun dressing as the characters from the Inside Out Movie!
On Friday, the students had a Christmas morning dress down day and came to school donned in flannel and red and green pjs. In the gym they played knockout, where 7th grader Lestond won the students’ game and Mrs. Leahy won the teachers’ game. Then they played class against class volleyball. The 8th graders won volleyball, overall dominating the week in games and winning the door decorating contest as well. They will receive a dress down day to celebrate their win!
Another pre-Christmas activity the middle schoolers participated in was Operation Christmas Child.
The students gathered in their homerooms to write notes on Christmas cards and fill boxes with toys and gifts their families had donated. The students opened their Bibles as many wrote encouraging verses in their cards. Each box would go to a boy or girl in need. When all the boxes were filled, they prayed over the boxes and loaded up the Suburban to transport them to Evangel Church where they would be shipped out from. Overall, they completed 94 boxes to send to children around the world!
Our middle schoolers truly embodied the spirit of Christmas through their creativity, camaraderie, and acts of kindness. From festive costumes and friendly competition to heartfelt contributions to Operation Christmas Child, their efforts brought joy not only to their school but also to children around the globe. This week will surely be remembered as a meaningful and merry start to the Christmas season!
