Our elementary students had the opportunity to finish up the 20-21 school year with a service project that enabled them to put their theme verse for the year, Mark 12:31 “Love your neighbor as yourself,” into action!
Mrs. Spiess introduced the service project, Blankets of Hope, to our elementary students by showing them videos about two amazing brothers who have a heart to bless those in need with a warm blanket. Blankets of Hope is an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit helping students practice empathy and kindness by donating blankets, each paired with an inspirational handwritten note, to those experiencing homelessness.
The students, guided by their teachers and Principal McInerney, were then able to write their own encouraging letter to give hope to a homeless person. The students did a fantastic job of writing their letters and drawing pictures that included bible verses of love and hope. They prayed over the blankets and letters and asked God to bless the men and women receiving the blankets. What a joy it was to watch the students put kindness into practice by writing their own letters to wrap with the blankets. We are grateful to all our parents who donated toward purchasing the blankets.
The NYC Relief Bus will be taking our blankets and handwritten notes of encouragement and handing them out to those who are homeless in NY and NJ. We are excited to bless those in need with these purple blankets of hope!
