Our students and teachers were excited to celebrate our love for reading during “Read Across America Week” (March 1-5)! The elementary staff and students alike had so much fun reading lots of books by Dr. Suess as well as other favorite authors! Some classes had ‘special surprise guest readers’ (including parents, Dr. Smock, Mrs. McInerney and Mrs. Dyer)! Each day had a different theme: Monday – wearing crazy socks, Tuesday – dressing as their favorite Dr. Suess character, Wednesday – wearing a silly hat, Thursday – wearing pajamas and Friday – “dressing down!” Mrs. McInerney & Mrs. Hubler read bedtime stories each night virtually via Class Dojo.
The National Read Across America Day, March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s book author, Dr. Suess, was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading.
Some of our high school students even jumped on board! Our high school juniors took the opportunity this week to uplift and encourage others through reading. They read some of their favorite Dr. Suess and other children’s books to students at the Bright Beginnings Learning Center which provides individualized special education services for students ages 3-13. Though our students were not able to go in person (due to Covid) as they have done in the past, they connected with the kids via Zoom. Both our students and those at Bright Beginnings were blessed!
