The Timothian Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 12 new members and honored 11 seniors this year on April 13th. This special evening included the induction ceremony for new members, a special honoring of the senior members and a dessert celebration for family members, students, and staff in the TCS Chapel.

A TCS tradition and one of the highlights of the evening for all is when each senior is brought forward while a designated faculty or staff member reads them a letter which highlights the student’s strengths and challenges them to continue to grow academically and spiritually in college and beyond. These letters, personally written by the staff members, beautifully express how well they know and love their students. Many parents shared that they are deeply grateful for the investment and sacrifices that the TCS faculty and staff have made in their children’s lives.

The National Honor Society (NHS) was established in 1921 to recognize outstanding high school students. Induction into the NHS is recognized and respected throughout the country in high schools and institutions of higher learning. Meant to be more than just an ‘honor roll’, the NHS serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Character, Leadership, Service, and for Timothy Christian School, Christian Testimony. Members of the Timothian chapter of the NHS are expected to excel in all five of these areas.

The National Honor Society’s symbol is a torch, which represents the eternal light of truth. During the ceremony, that candle is used to light five other candles, one for each of the five pillars of the Timothian chapter of the National Honor Society. Some of our senior members read descriptions of each of the five pillars as the candles were lit.

As the new members were inducted, they each lit a candle symbolic of receiving the truth that has been passed onto them and accepting the weight and responsibility of embodying the five pillars in their lives to the best of their ability.

Using the symbolism of the candles and light, Principal McKay began the evening with a devotion. “As Paul tells Timothy to fan into flame the gift that God had given him, I am urging you to fan into flame the gift that is in you. We need all of you to be the fire that influences the halls of Timothy Christian School. We need you to be the light.”

TCS is so proud of all our NHS members and pray that they will each continue to exemplify scholarship, leadership, character, service, and Christian testimony with excellence in everything they do.
