Science
Will science and Scripture ever contradict each other? This can be answered with a resounding, “No!” Since the author of the Bible and the Creator of science are one and the same God, He cannot contradict Himself. Fallible man and his interpretations may lead to seeming conflicts, but true science and God’s Word will always be in complete harmony with one another. This presupposition is the bedrock of our investigations into the order, beauty, design, and complexity of God’s creation through our rigorous high school science program.
Bible
To truly love God, you have to know God. To know God you must spend time studying His Word. Facts, chronologies, definitions, doctrines and Scripture memory are all important and necessary aspects of getting to know God through His Word. At the same time, head knowledge must be transferred to heart knowledge in order to really be a follower of Christ. Practical application, reflection, and personal evaluation are woven into Bible classes. Living out the Christian life by making God-honoring choices each day is a major emphasis with all high school students.
History
We look into the past to show us how to live in the present and to prepare us for the future. In studying the past, students learn from people who have gone before us. They discover that events are not isolated occurrences in time, but are interconnected through causal relationships. Every event that has occurred in the past or will occur in the future is part of God’s master plan to bring glory to Himself through His relationship to mankind. God’s instruction to His people to “remember “ what had gone on before, was so they would look into history and be reminded of His sovereignty over all things. As students become scholars of the past, they see that their role as Christians in society is vital for influencing the present which is the history of the future.
Language Arts
Communication through words, whether written or spoken, is a powerful tool for expressing ourselves and relating to one another. Having a good command of the English language is important because proper communication skills carry over into all areas of life. Extensive reading in different genres of literature combined with abundant formal and informal writing opportunities more than prepare students for their college courses. Electives in writing, debate/speech, and theater arts allow students to develop their language even more in creative ways. As communicators for Christ, how crucial it is for students to be able to express themselves clearly, accurately and creatively for they carry within them the very Words of Life.
Math
As a God of order, God has established laws and principles which govern the universe based on consistent, measurable relationships of one thing to another. These patterns can be identified and defined and used to predict relationships in the future. In studying this order, solid computational skills and true comprehension of mathematical concepts are vitally important. These are the goals of the mathematics department. From this foundation, critical thinking and problem solving skills are developed as students are given opportunity to extend their knowledge and apply concepts to outside problems in other areas of life.
Foreign Language
Learning the basics of the language to be able to communicate in both written and oral form is the goal of the foreign language department. Students gain confidence in their communication skills through numerous opportunities to practice writing and speaking. By the time students are seniors they will have been taught the skills necessary to do well on the AP exam of their language. At each level, special emphasis is placed on learning how to communicate the Christian faith. Scripture memory, witnessing techniques, praying and sharing a personal testimony in the foreign language is taught and practiced.
