Dr. James Smock

Head of School

Ed.D. (Educational Leadership), Nova Southwestern University; M.A. (Counseling, Millersville State College); B.S. (Bible), Lancaster Bible College

“There is no greater excitement than to see children grow into  young men and women  that honor and serve the Lord!  It has been my privilege to serve the Lord in Christian education for many years. Through those years, I have been blessed to mentor numerous students and see how God has used, and continues to use them in His Church. The opportunity to disciple (mentor) others is both a privilege and an mandate given to us in Scripture.  I believe Timothy Christian School understands that expectation and is excited about discipling their students (the Lord’s most precious resource). I look forward to see how God will use my past experiences to develop future servants who are faithful for the Kingdom.”

Favorite Scripture Verse: We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers; constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father. I Thessalonians 1:2-3

“At secular institutions, the Christian academic can feel bifurcated as restrictions are placed on any form of religious engagement in education. Teaching at TC affords me the opportunity to bring my whole self into the classroom.  Here, I am allowed true academic freedom– the opportunity to integrate my faith and learning and to see how texts mean when God’s truth is applied as a critical lens. The ability to apply this additional layer of analysis onto texts and to engage with a community of learners- my wonderful students- in this enterprise of learning is gratifying. My subject is students and my aim is not only to teach students how to learn but to love our God, love life, and love people and help them see their academic journey as an integral part of a process of discerning their higher purpose in God.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to be working at Timothy Christian School, where I believe God has led me to do great work for His Kingdom. It was very hard for me to stay quiet about my faith in Jesus at various secular schools that I taught at, so I am truly grateful to God for allowing me to work at a school where I can disciple young children in the Word of God and freely express my love for Jesus! I pray that God uses my life and the gifts He has given me to bless, encourage, teach, and inspire the staff and students that I will have the privilege of getting to know while at Timothy Christian. I really hope, by God’s grace, to lead many students to Christ, strengthen their faith in Him, and show them how exciting it is to love Jesus and love others!”

Favorite Scripture Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

“The commitment to academic excellence combined with a compassionate, Bible-based Christian Community is very rare. TCS successfully achieves that balance.  There is an immediate sense that students, staff and faculty are highly valued.  All are given the tools required to be the best they can be.”

“I love teaching because I love to bring out the best in my students. I enjoy creating a warm classroom environment where students feel known and respected. This sets the tone for students to achieve high academic and personal goals.”

I love the community at Timothy. The parents, students, and staff at Timothy are so supportive and caring. I have experienced this as a teacher and as a parent of a student at Timothy. Last year my kindergartner had an emergency appendectomy. During her recovery she received cards, surprises, and prayers from the Timothy community. She could not wait to get back to school and told me several times how loved she felt. I wouldn’t want her to go to school anywhere else!

Favorite Scripture Verse: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

“It is such an honor to be teaching in an environment where teachers can share not just their knowledge and experience with their students, but their faith as well. Every field of academic study is intertwined with God’s truth, and Timothy Christian School is an incredible environment where students can learn in a way that synchronizes their mind with their faith.”

“I love kids. They are so unpredictable. The smallest things can excite them or upset them. You see this daily in the classroom. Although it can be challenging, it also brings great joy when you see their countenance change because they’ve succeeded or when a few words of encouragement or extra attention makes all the difference between success and failure for them.”

Favorite Scripture Verse: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. Psalm 121:1-8
