What do you love most about TCS?
The community! To this day I am close to many of my TCS classmates. The teachers who poured into me as a student and as a person, had a deep and meaningful impact on who I was as a high school student and who I became once I graduated.
What is one word that best describes the school? Why?
Community. This word is most fitting for all the relationships that I formed roaming the halls, sitting in the classrooms, playing on the volleyball court, and celebrating at Riot Night. They continue to exist and be strengthened even 10+ years after leaving TCS. Friendships with many of my classmates continue to be a blessing to this day. Also, having a group of people who shared the experience of high school and have been together through some of life’s most formative experiences (high school, college, marriage, kids, etc.), holds a unique and cherished place in my heart.
Describe one of your favorite memories of TCS.
You mean besides meeting my husband?! 😉 I really enjoyed being involved in various extracurricular activities. Landing the lead in the school play, “Anne Frank and Me,” during my sophomore year (after having had a very minor role my freshman year) was pretty exciting too! Mr. Rauseo our director always made an effort to connect us to the history of the story and help us understand why it was important that we pay tribute to the lessons, which we wanted to impart to the audience.
From your own experience, why do you believe it was important for you to attend TCS?
I started at TCS as a very quiet and sad 13-year-old (in my 8th grade). I had just moved to NJ and was so lost- emotionally and spiritually. I felt terribly lonely and isolated. TCS welcomed me with open arms, gave me a place to belong, and provided a safe atmosphere, where I could ask questions and be challenged during the most formative years of my life.
How are faith and learning integrated at TCS?
The difference is in the quality of staff. The teachers care deeply not only about the academic well-being of a student, but about their spiritual life as well. I felt comfortable seeking out teachers and asking tough questions, because I knew I would be met with grace and humility whether we agreed or not.
In what ways did TCS prepare you for college and beyond?
I never felt out of my league in college classrooms- I always felt prepared and equipped even when the class sizes increased dramatically, or the assignments seemed tough. Being able to be involved in so many extracurriculars also helped me with time management which is a skill I cherish to this day!
What would you tell a friend to encourage them to send their child to TCS?
The faculty and staff care deeply about your child and their academic and spiritual well-being. The relationships that your child forms may very well last their whole life and that is priceless.
Where are you today?
I moved to NC after marrying my high school sweetheart in 2011. I graduated from NC State with a degree in Psychology. Right now, I split my time between working with a local swim school (Aqua-Tots) and being home with our three kiddos- Berdie, Gus, and Andi.
