Praise Heard Across the World
Timothy elementary students learned what praise looks like in different countries, as they prepared for this year’s Elementary Christmas Concert.
The elementary theme, titled: “A Christmas
Journey,” took a walk through Scripture and the Christmas Story, with dramatic readings from our 5th graders and Christmas songs from different parts of the world, such as Europe and Africa.
“My goal was to expose them to t hings they normally do not get to hear this time of year or on the radio,” says Amelia Ray, TCS Choir Director. “We have the blessing of having a diverse school culture at Timothy. I think kids automatically see that, and I want them to see that it is that way in music as well.”
This is Miss Ray’s first year teaching at Timothy. She held previous positions teaching music in Seoul, South Korea and Pennsylvania. Yet, this was the largest number of students she has taught. More than 285 participated in the combined elementary and secondary concert choirs.
A Magnificent Christmas
Her expertise, combined with Timothy veterans; Band Director, Dave Carroll and Accompanist, Ruthy Brookman, made this year’s performances even more memorable.
This year’s Secondary Christmas Concert, titled; “A Magnificent Christmas,” included all middle school students and high school students in Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Choir.
“Our TCS Christmas Concert was a great celebration for all ages. The Choirs and Bands presented a nice variety of songs and styles which mirror the many facets of God’s love toward us,” said Carroll. “It was a wonderful evening celebrating God’s incarnation. Emmanuel – God with us!”
“It went well. I was really proud of the kids. This was the first time in my teaching experience that I’ve conducted that many kids at once. I had eighty 7th and 8th graders singing at one point and there’s just something glorious about that many people singing together.”
Even more voices were heard, as the audience was asked to join in on Silent Night and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. What a blessing it was to praise the Lord together.
We hope that you enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and the chance to reflect on and praise God for His most wonderful gift to us. As our littlest children in K4 sang, He is the baby sleeping in the manger, but also our King! A simple but profound message that even our little tigers understood!
Excerpt from K4 performance: He is Sleeping
He is sleeping in the manger
Baby Jesus born today
Who will guard Him from
Who will birthday carols sing?
Come then, all ye shepherds lowly,
Come and see the Infant holy.
Baby Jesus born a King!
